Tulips, with their vibrant colors and graceful petals, embody the beauty of spring. Crocheting them allows you to capture that beauty in a timeless, handmade creation. And in this tutorial with a free pattern you can crochet your own to keep or gift.
It makes a perfect pair to create a bouquet with the crochet daffodil flowers. Both are vibrant in colors and represent spring beautifully. Celebrate the season with these delightful crochet creations, bringing a touch of nature's splendor into your home all year long. Pattern for the crochet daffodil can be found HERE .
The stitches used in this pattern for the crochet tulip bloom flower are:
- sl st - slip stitch
- ch - chain stitch
- sc - single crochet stitch
- inc – increase: 2 sc in 1
- hdc – half double crochet stitch
- dc - double crochet stitch
- picot – ch 3 and a sl st in the base
Materials needed to crochet tulip flowers:
- yarn – for petals / tulip bloom I am using red mercerized cotton yarn, but you can take any color you like. I also made them in pink and orange.
- yarn – green, for leaf and wrapping around the stem
- crochet hook – appropriate size for your yarn – 3mm
- wire – for petals – thickness 0.3mm / 28 gauge – in the color of petals – preferably
- wire – green – thickness 0.3mm / 28 gauge to make stamen (for anther you can use small beads) or you can use 1mm - 2mm stamen buds – that can be bought in craft shops

- needle
- glue
- hot glue gun – to glue the back and the wire

Note!
- the petal is worked in the back loop of the crochet chain, in the last stitch you make the turn and then the second part is done in the front loops
- sometimes it is easier to make the second part in the space of back bump and front loop
- you can make a small “lip” at the end to help you attach the crochet petals together DO IT!!! USE IT!!!
- for the helping “lip” you make ch2, hdc, hdc, and finish
Crochet pattern for tulip inner petals – smaller size:
- R0: 10ch + 1ch
- R1: in the second stitch form the hook in each chain from the top make: sc, sc, hdc, 6dc, {5hdc}, 6dc, hdc, sc, sc, sl st in first sc
- R2: lay the wire on top of R1 and work: ch1, 10sc, inc, inc, inc, 10sc, sl st

Crochet pattern for tulip outer petals – bigger size:

Note!
-
The long crochet tulip leaf is an andjustable pattern – means you can do as many chain stitches for the base as you want – example below is 25
-
“hdc, ..., hdc,” means you make hdc crochet stitches until 1 before last
-
in the last chain stitch you make the turn around {5hdc} – and MARK the middle stitch
Crochet pattern for tulip leaf (you can make 2)
- R0: 35ch + 1ch (or whatever length you want – you can add or remove chains)
- R1: in the second stitch form the hook in each chain from the top make – MARK the middle of {5hdc}: 4sc, hdc, ..., hdc, {5hdc}, hdc, …, hdc, 4sc, ch1, sl st in first sc
- R2: lay the wire on top of R1 and work sc until 1 before the marked where you begin with the increases for the turn: ch1, sc, ..., sc, inc, inc, picot, inc, sc, …, sc, sl st
Assembling the petals:
- make stamen
- join stamen to the stem wire
- wrap around the too the 3 smaller crochet tulip petals with thread – you can also use hot glue or other glue to hold in place
- wrap the 3 larger outer tulip petals around the inner ones with thread, where you place the outer one between two inner ones, you can also use hot glue or other glue to hold in place
- wrap the stem around with green yarn (or floral tape – I used yarn)
- when adding the leaf start adding and wrapping it about 1cm before the end of leaf<
- and the end use a drop of glue to secure the wrapped yarn in place
