1. Crochet Christmas Tree Made from a Granny Square
The first design is made from a simple granny square. You can use:
- any granny square pattern
- any yarn weight
- any color combination
Work it up in a solid color, or switch colors every round to use up leftover yarn and give it a scrap-friendly twist!
Finishing ideas:
- Make two granny square trees and join them together so the tree can stand upright.
- Add a loop and hang it as an ornament.
- Stitch on beads, buttons, or sequins for extra sparkle or just GLUE them on.
This is a fun way to experiment with color while staying cozy on the couch.

2. Mini Crochet Christmas Tree With Branches
The second pattern starts with a cone-shaped base, and then you crochet the branches onto it. There are two branch style options, so you can choose the look you like best!
You can follow along with the written pattern or watch the detailed YouTube tutorial if you’re a visual learner.
Perfect for Holiday Decorating
These mini crochet Christmas trees look adorable:
- On a mantelpiece
- On a windowsill
- Displayed on a bookshelf
- As desk decor
I usually plant mine in a tiny clay pot that measures about 6 cm tall with a 7 cm diameter, but you can also add a loop and hang it on your real Christmas tree as a handmade ornament.
Here is also a 4 part YouTube video tutorial series where I show you step by step in real time the process of crocheting and decoration the Christmas tree.

An Updated Version of My Previous Mini Tree
This pattern is an upgraded version of the Mini Crochet Christmas Tree tutorial I released a couple of years ago. The base is the same, but the branches are newly designed and in my opinion, much faster to crochet!
Check out An Updated Version of Mini crochet Christmas tree Ornament - the upgraded mini crochet Christmas tree pattern with faster branches.
If you want to compare them or try the original style, you can find that older tutorial here: Crochet Mini Christmas Tree.
Crochet Christmas trees are such a charming way to bring handmade warmth into your holiday décor. I hope you enjoy making these as much as I did!
Happy crafting
