Crochet Poinsettia Flower Pattern
|
Bring a little handmade Christmas charm to your home with a crochet poinsettia! Follow this free pattern to create your own festive flower.
Did you know that a poinsettia is actually a shrub and can even grow into a small tree?
Poinsettias are best known for their bright colors during the Christmas season but they can also make beautiful green plants throughout the year. Their colorful bracts change in response to shorter days which is why they turn red just in time for the winter holidays.
And here is a little detail you might not know: the bright red parts that look like petals aren't actually the flowers! They are modified leaves called bracts. The tiny yellow flowers in the center are the real flowers.
Although red is the most familiar color, poinsettias also come in shades of pink, cream, yellow, and more.
For this crochet poinsettia I wanted to recreate that classic Christmas flower in yarn. It is a lovely decoration for the holiday season and can be used on its own or added to other handmade Christmas projects.
For this project you will need to use some wire - I am using some floral wire to put in the leaves and also a bit thicker one for the stem where I will be wrapping around the leaves.
Pattern for the Crochet Poinsettia Flower
Now for the center of the flower, the acualy flower I will use a mini crochet ball:
Pattern for inner flower
- magic ring, ch1 to secure the magic ring
- R1: 6sc in the magic ring
- R2: inc, sc, sc, inc, sc, sc
- R3: 8sc
- R4: ch3 sc, ch2 sc, ch3 sc, ch2 sc,ch3 sc, ch2 sc,ch3 sc, ch2 sc - join with a sl st
and done!
Before closing up you need to put in the wire of the stem. What I do is a small hook at the end and a drop of glue (hot glue) before I close the flower up.
I would sugest that the number of leaves in red are 3 of the smallest one, 3 of the middle one and 6 of the largest ones. And for the green leaves? I would suggest making at least 3.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Glad to hear you enjoyed the video tutorial. I am making the same to be honest - no wire and I will make another video on how to assamble the flower. I got a request to make it as an ornament where I will glue two poinsettia flowers together to hand on a tree. Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you will know when the new video will be out.

I cant belive I finaly found a pattern that was not AI generated! And the video tutorial was amazing where you show us how to join everything together. Is it posible to not use the wire? I want to add it to a christmas wreath and was wondering how to do that?
