Crochet gingerbread house ornament

Another beginner friendly crochet Christmas ornament made from basic shapes. A square and a cut off triangle.

You have to make two (2) parts of the base of the house – a crochet square and two (2) parts for the roof of the house. All the loose ends will be in the middle of the ornament.

Each peace also has a straight and even edge. How you do that? Just use single crochet stitches all around the house base and the roof.

The final size of the ornament gingerbread house is 8 x 9cm. I was using a 3mm crochet hook and some cotton yarn.

The size may vary depending on your crochet hook size, yarn thickness and the tension. I am a tight crocheter.

To decorate it you can use embroidery, beads, sequins, felt, crochet small shapes (heart, circle), …

The stitches used in this pattern are:

  • magic ring
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • ch – chain stitch
  • sc – single crochet stitch
  • dec – single crochet decrease stitch (2sc in 1 – back loops only)
  • inc – single crochet decrease stitch (2sc in 1 – back loops only)
  • dc –double crochet stitch
  • trc – triple (treble) crochet stitch

  • Row 0: ch 19
  • Row 1 - Row 9: ch1, 15sc

The diagram for the house base:

  • Row 0: ch 22
  • Row 1: (ch1) 22sc
  • Row 2: (ch1) dec, 18sc, dec
  • Row 3: (ch1) 20sc
  • Row 4: (ch1) dec, 16sc, dec
  • Row 5: (ch1) 18sc
  • Row 6: (ch1) dec, 14sc, dec
  • Row 7: (ch1) 16sc
  • Row 6: (ch1) dec, 12sc, dec

The diagram for the house roof:

  • start with a magic ring
  • ch3, 3trc, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, 3trc, ch3, sl st

Diagram for the crochet heart:

  • magic ring
  • R1: 6sc – 6st

How to assembly:

  • decorate each part individually
  • join the house base - used contrasting white color of yarn to make it look like it is snowing
  • join the roof parts together at the top and the sides, slide the house base in the bottom of the roof and sew together
  • attach a string to hang

Thank you for the pattern and the YouTube video on how to decorate the house. I made the base as you showed but after I used beads and felt to make the windows and lights. I was a bit late this year with this but it is having a place on our christmas tree next year.
