Crochet gingerbread house ornament
|
Another beginner friendly crochet Christmas ornament made from basic geometric shapes. A crochet square - rectangle and a cut off crochet triangle.
In one of the previous posts ( /Basic crochet shape christmas ornament set ) I showed you how to make a crochet Christmas tree ornament from just basic shapes. This time I am using the same patterns just a bit adjusted.

Note!
You have to make two (2) parts of the base of the house - a crochet rectangle and two (2) parts for the roof of the house - a cut off crochet triangle.
Note!
For all the edges to be nice, even and straight you have to crochet around with a single crochet stitch.
The final size of the ornament gingerbread house is 8 x 9cm. I was using a 3mm crochet hook and some cotton DK yarn.
The size may vary depending on your crochet hook size, yarn thickness and the tension. I am a tight crocheter.
To decorate your gingerbread house ornament you can use embroidery, beads, sequins, felt, crochet small shapes (heart, circle),...
The stitches used in this pattern for the christmas ornament are:
- magic ring
- sl st - slip stitch
- ch - chain stitch
- sc - single crochet stitch
- dec - sc decrease stitch (join 2sc in 1 - back loops only)
- inc - sc inecrease stitch (make 2sc in 1)
- dc - double crochet stitch
- trc - triple (treble) crochet stitch

Note!
You have to make two (2) of each for the front and the back side!

How to assemble all the part to create the crochet gingerbread house:
- crochet 2 house bases and 2 house roofs
- decorate each part individually
- join the house base with a contrasting white color of yarn to make it look like it is snowing
- join the roof parts together at the top and the sides
- slide the house base in the bottom of the roof and sew together
- attach a string to hang

You can use any color combination for your crochet gingerbread house ornament to decorate but my suggestion is keeping it simple in in christmass spirit. At the end add a string and you can admire your gingerbread house on your Christmas tree.
Happy crafting

Thank you for the pattern and the YouTube video on how to decorate the house. I made the base as you showed but after I used beads and felt to make the windows and lights. I was a bit late this year with this but it is having a place on our christmas tree next year.
Did you use this patter for your crochet project?
